Get Ready!

A permanent ban on the use of gas-powered leaf blowers by commercial landscapers in Arlington takes effect on March 15, 2025.


Arlington's 2022 bylaw, approved by Town Meeting, mandated a phase-out of gas-powered leaf blowers that began with a seasonal ban, effective March 15, 2023. The ban on noncommercial residents’ use of gas-powered leaf blowers takes effect on March 15, 2026. The bylaw allows the continued use of electric leaf blowers within certain hours. March 15, 2025: Permanent ban for commercial landscapers.

March 15, 2026: Permanent ban for residents.


Reporting Violations

To report violations of the bylaw, call the Health Department at 781-316-3170, or fill out the form on the Health Department website. Anyone witnessing a violation can make a report. To do so, click here. 


Directions for filling out the Health Department "Service Request" form:

1. Enter your name and address.

2. Under “Categories,” select leaf blower.

3. Under “Public, Business or Residence,” select Business.

4. Under “Name of Business,” enter the name of the violating landscape company.

5. Under “Details,” enter the time and location of the violation. You may include photographic or recorded evidence, but it’s not required. 


Commercial landscapers or residents found in violation of the bylaw will be fined $100 for the first offense, and $200 for any subsequent offense. If a landscaper violates the bylaw on a resident’s property, the resident will be notified.
